HISTORY ABOUT GROUP-SWAMI VIVEKANAND BHAVAI MANDAL
History in brief:
- The MANDAL has been established around 1950’s by our father Mr. Babubhai Kanjibhai Vyas (sub caste Paija) born on 26th December 1933, He and his fore father and his entire family has contributed immensely by performing various characters of Saurashtra’s historical bhavai and saved the extinct art of storytelling. Before the inception of Swami Vivekanand mandal, Babubhai’s father Kanjibhai and Uncle Kashirambhai and Grandfather Mr.Prabhashankar and their relatives were doing activity of educating society through Bhavai activity, mandal was namely known as Khodiyar bhvai mandal during 1850’s time.
- So in a way the evolvement of SWAMI VIVEKANAND MANDAL is resemble of the country and surrounding society’s vision of Bharat and it show case that how Mr. Babubhai Vyas was inspired by the vision of Swami Vivekanand during that time and the same ideas impacted to the various different section of the societies which are remotely located.
About Bhavai and
their group:
- The Bhavai is very old art of storytelling has its roots since 13th Century, originally it was a folkdance performed by only male artists by wearing women’s clothes as in the past the society was dominated by male and it was taboo and considered unacceptable in the society that women perform such dancing or storytelling act in front of masses, however in current time it is completely inverse and equality has become new normal.
- These all the performers of the Mandal has continued their performance despite scarce resources, It was time when there were no lights, no vehicles and no availability of public transport, they were used to be in continuous travelling from one village to another with carrying all their livelihoods – they were also showcasing the example of team work and hard work to society and due to the same leaders of small villages were welcoming them with excitement and affectionately.
- Because of these all the efforts of Swami Vivekanand Bhavai mandal, Prime Minister Morarji Desai had encouraged, appreciated and promoted them to showcase their talent at global level - In his letter dated 11th August 1977, He also admitted that the Bhavai was famous folkdance but later on Songs, Dialogues and Acting were added into the same, that has worked as powerful tool to educate public masses on various social issues through Sarcasm and Humor derived from one’s foolish act, the same has been accorded and promoted by many leaders of State of Gujarat and Central Government and organization like National School of Drama, INT,CCRT, Rajsthan naty academy, international theater, foreign country, governments, recorder etc..
- Our group performs different types (like vanjara, zanda zulan,alabelo,kan-gopi,lal batav-chhel batav,miya-bivi etc.) of drama and vesh and plays for many years and this also does in time.
-
After the
demise of Mr. Babubhai Kanjibhai Vyas
in 2005, the Mandal has continued
their activity in the leadership of Haribhai Kanjibhai Vyas who is of
70 years of now, as part of succession planning the performance activity is
headed by Mr. Vikrambhai Haribhai Paija and Mgt. and co-ordination of
mandal’s activity with various organizations is headed by
Mr. Pranjivanbhai Babubhai Paija
